Disaster Awareness

The First Step to Preparedness is Awareness

Understanding threats will help ensure the safety of you and your family during a disaster in your hometown.

Disasters can range from extreme heat or flooding to biological terrorist attack.  The differences in natural and man-made disasters will impact how you prepare and respond to an emergency.

Some threats are specific to a region, so while it is unlikely that Pittsburgh will ever experience a tsunami, it is important that you are able to identify the warning signs and respond appropriately during your vacation to Hawaii.

As you identify threats in your region, learn about established emergency plans by contacting your local or state government.
