Terrorists use violence in an attempt to intimidate or influence political or social change.  While there is no way to predict when or when the next terrorist will strike, there are some measures you can take to prepare:

Be aware of your surroundings

  • Pay attention to items in public spaces that seem out of place or unusual - such as abandoned packages - and report immediately
  • Monitor any unusual behavior
  • Think about your escape route from busy public places, buildings, and mass transit noting emergency exit doors and staircases

Take extra care while traveling

  • Keep track of your luggage
  • Do not accept packages from strangers
